Making yogurt is a hot topic in the Instant Pot groups online. It is not hard or complicated. After you make it one time, you’ll see how truly easy it is to make Instant Pot Yogurt.

The first 30 minutes are hands-on. You have to make sure you (and by ‘you’ I mean ‘the Instant Pot’) heat the milk to the correct temperature. Then you add the starter to the heated milk.  The next 8 to 10 hours require you to walk away and leave the cooker the alone so it can go about its business. You get involved again when it’s time to take the yogurt out of the pot and strain it. Continue reading “Instant Pot Yogurt”

When Bad Things Happen To Good Recipes

antiqueYou blithely throw ingredients into your pressure cooker secure in the knowledge that the recipe will be a success. You have faith in the process.  (Same thing happens when you get in your car. You turn the key expecting the car to start. Once again, you have faith in the process.) Faith is belief in the unseen. You can’t see what’s going on in that pot but you are confident that everything is progressing as it should. But not always. Sometimes bad things happen to good recipes. Mac and cheese from a box in the Instant Pot

macaroni and cheese in an Instant PotI just made Kraft macaroni and cheese in my Instant Pot. Yes, the stuff in the blue box. I’ve even made the stuff in generic boxes.  Making packaged foods in a pressure cooker is so stinkin’ easy.  It’s a no-brainer.

The “But It’s So Easy On The Stove” crowd is shaking their collective heads and saying, “Why?” Because it’s a no-brainer. There’s no law that says everything you make in a pressure cooker has to be made from scratch. Why not use a short cut to make life easier? Continue reading “Mac and cheese from a box in the Instant Pot”

Think Outside the Pot

Think Outside the Pot
Thinking Pot

Everybody thinks of a pressure cooker as an alternative to a microwave, an oven, the stove top, or a slow cooker. It’s another way to make a meal. Right? Right.

But there are intrepid innovators out there. Those who think outside the pot when it comes to their cooker. They cook in the pot. But they use it in ways that may never have occurred to you.
